Madden Career Toolkit's Admin Area :: Coach Functions

Super basic coach support was half-assedly added in MADCAT 1.5 and as soon as my man BullDwg tried it out on his fabbo franchise site it broke like fine china. So, for MADCAT 1.6 there is a whole new way to work wtih coaches that will make it a small job to fix things up when two teams have coaches with the same name in the logs. This documentation is layed out as a case study for best clarity.

Entering the "Coach Functions" Area of the Admin Panel

The first thing you want to do is click on the "Coach Functions" button:

Everyone knows that being a head coach in the NFL is hard work, so there's no way in hell a coach could coach two teams at once (not to mention the conflict of interest)! The niftiest feature is that MADCAT will actually tell you when there is a coach who is assigned to two different teams. This is important, because this what will happen when two coaches have the same name in the logs.

In this example, M.Lewis got named Marvin Lewis (beause the default coach names are still in MADCAT), but the Detroit Lions (who got imported second) also got assigned to Marvin Lewis, even though they are actually coached by Mo Lewis. We know this because we looked it up in Madden. MADCAT can't tell you who the mystery coach is (otherwise it'd have set it properly in the first place ;-)). In this example Marvin Lewis is the only coach listed on the right, but in a real situation there would be 32 or more coaches listed. The Duplicate Coaches table lists the coaches' unique id (79, in this case). You would look up that id in the list to see which name got assigned to both teams.

Adding Mo Lewis...

So how do we fix this duplicate issue? It's a simple two-step process, actually. First thing you want to do is add Mo Lewis to the coaches table. Use the "Add a New Coach" form. Type in the short version of his name as it would be in the franchise logs ("M.Lewis"). Then type in his full name. Click "Add Coach".


After clicking "Add Coach", Mo Lewis will show up in the coach table on the right. Make note of his unique id (80, in this case).

The second step is to assign Mo Lewis to the Lions! Type in Mo's unique id (80), the team he coaches (Lions) and the year (2003).

Huzzah!

After you've assigned the correct coach the "Duplicate Coaches" table will disappear from the admin screen. It worked!

Some Notes

Right now, you'll have to keep assigning Mo to the Lions each year (but not each import, at least). It'll just be a one-step process once you add Mo to the coaching table, though. In the future, I'm hoping to have MADCAT look at the previous year's coach and if the short name matches just assign him again.
