Madden Career Toolkit 1.6 Release Notes

Installation Note

The structure of MADCAT, including layout of files, number of files, and names of files has changed quite a bit in MADCAT 1.6. I suggest you take the custom files you have and place them in a safe place, then delete everything in your MADCAT directory and install MADCAT 1.6 fresh (you can use the upgrade for the database, if you like). Once you get 1.6 working as per normal, start adding in the rest of your custom stuff. Be sure to read (or re-read, as the case may be) over this documentation, as quite a few things have changed.

Additions

  • The backend for individual statistics has been completely rewritten to not only use fewer files and lines of code, but to be more efficient, and easier to grok useful information from. Though the immediate effects don't appear huge, this is the biggest thing to hit MADCAT since One Touch Update.
  • Support for the importing of roster .csv files has been added. MADCAT will import two different types of .csv files. It will import Madden's native .csv file format and it will import .csv files from the included MADscout application, which is a modified version of George Greer's amazing scouter application. Right now, only ratings.php uses this support, but I'll be adding player ratings throughout MADCAT in future versions.
  • Motivated by a league site I'm building around MADCAT, I've added a more extensive and flexible skinning system to MADCAT. It's still a far cry from the skinning in forum packages like phpBB and Invision PowerBoard, but it's pretty cool none the less.

Tweaks

  • Due to the backend changes, the leaders page now displays QB rating in addition to passing yards, and lists punting, punt returning, and kicking returning has averages instead of total yardage. Each of these new listings comes with an associated minimum attempts per game to qualify for the leaders listing.
  • Coach support has been completely rewritten. The front-end look of coaches hasn't changed (yet), but the admin-end support for coaches is quite different. It is now really easy to deal with coaches with the same name in the logs (Marvin and Mo Lewis, for example).
  • The admin has been reorganized, to help reduce clutter. The main functions for importing logs and dealing with your team remain on the "front page" of the admin area, while the functions for dealing with individual players have been grouped into their section, as well as individual sections for coach support and "optional" functions.
  • The previous "upgrade13to15.php" and "upgrade14to15.php" have been unified into a single upgrading module that will upgrade from any version to 1.6. The install and uninstall screens have been slightly upgraded as well
  • Debugging support has been improved. I'm hoping this will help me help you when you have problems.
  • Various little tweaks here and there throughout the code. I didn't keep track of the little things, while working on 1.6, as well as I did in past versions.

Bugs Fixed

  • vs.php would not work if you used a table prefix for MADCAT.
  • In 2003, team pages would list the entire roster as rookies. I had long since fixed this on the rookies page, but left off the fix on the team pages

Files Modified

If you do a lot of work customizing MADCAT, these are the only files you'll need to replace with the new versions.
  • MADCAT 1.6 is a major release. Delete all your existing MADCAT files (some have been eliminated) and replace with the new versions.
