This list is
always under construction. Here you will find the unique plays,
which you may want to check out to add to your playbook. Most
of them feature specific quality, like a playaction, or a blocking
assignment that you can incorporate into your playbook.
-
Full House (Normal, Strong,
Weak) - (ATL): These are specific to the Atlanta
playbook, and feature a few bootlegs, a double handoff,
some playaction, and more.
- Fake Dive Pitch - With Custom Route
Runs and motion, this play can be used in many creative
ways. The QB fakes to a back and tosses to another player.
- Fake Dive Boot - A simple bootleg
left.
- Fake Pitch Book - Same as above, but
a fake pitch. Very nive for creating an option keep
play.
- I-Form Normal:
- End-Around (BAL) - Fake handoff
up the middle, handoff end-around to X WR.
- Phin Counter (MIA) - Left
guard does a short pull, good for a blast.
-
Z End Around series (PHI,
NYG, TEN) - The Z receiver runs a fake end-around
while the HB runs a true dive. The Philly playbook has
the true handoff to the Z receiver on the end-around,
and a double PA pass, where the QB fakes to both. The
others just have the fake end-around HB dive.
- Fake Reverse (NYG) - A toss
left, while the Z WR runs a fake reverse. Complements
the true reverse also found in the Giants playbook.
- QB PA Sweep (MIA, PHI) -
A fake handoff up the middle, and the QB bootlegs right.
-
Boss Sweep (PIT) - My
favorite running play to add. The blocking assignments
for the linemen has the left tackle and guard both reach
blocking right, while the center and tackle both pull.
The right guard blocks down left. Good for dives up
the middle (change the center and RT to "run block"),
Power runs to the right (probably changing the RT to
"run block" is sufficient), and sweeps to
the right (the delay sweep works well here). Ironically,
a toss sweep left, the default option, doesn't work
too well.
- Weak I-Normal: Counter
Trap (MIA) - The center blocks down left, and the RG
pulls right. With this blocking by the center you can create
a trap, or a blast.
- Shotgun (many): Middle
Screen (GB, among many others) - The center and both
guards screen block over the middle. This is out of many
shotgun formations, and is pretty common.
-
Singleback (Dice, Deuce) -
(IND): Many unique plays, mostly playaction.
- HB Slant 18 - Center blocks
right, right guard pulls a bit. Can be used for a trap-type
play.
- HB Counter Trap - Counter
right, with the guard and TE pulling (Deuce only).
- PA passes - The Colts playbook
has several unique playaction passes, playaction off
a counter, playaction with the RB going straight to
the flat, and more.
- Plays in Singleback Deuce, Dice, and
Slot Strong out of the Colts playbook are mostly similar.
- Singleback:
- Normal
- SE Reverse (NYG) - Reverse
going right with X WR.
- Middle Screen (TEN) -
Center and RG screen block over the middle, can
be modified to create a WR middle screen.
- QB PA Roll (TEN) - PA
pass, rollout right.
- Swing Screen (TEN) -
Swing screen to HB left. The screen blocking by
the WRs and center is useful.
- TE Screen (TEN)
- TE delay screen right. Useful unmodified, motion
can make it more effective.
-
WR Reverse Pass (PHI) - Reverse, the WR
can also pass afterwards. Can be used as it is,
or can be used to create a WR option.
- Slot Strong-WR Misdirection, Misdirection
Pitch (TB, NYG) - Fake toss right, pitch left to
slot WR.
- 4WR-Trap Reverse (NYG) - Reverse
going to the right, the 2 WRs on the right crack block.
Can be modified into a sweep right with crack blocking.
- Trips Bunch (PIT) - Features several
reverses, fake reverses, HB passes, trick plays, and playaction
passes.
